Plot

a series of related events. It consists of the exposition, conflict (internal or external), complications (tension), a climax, and a resolution. The plot may be in a chronological sequence or use flashback. There may also be foreshadowing. Plot may create tension or suspense.

  1. Exposition: background information provided by the narrator
    Internal conflict: conflict happen within the narrator him or herself.
    External conflict: conflict happen between the narrator and the other character.
    Complication: a process of causing tension.
    Climax: the most exciting and important part of the story.
    Resolution: the ending part of the story.
    Chronological sequence: a following of an event after another.
    Flashback: talking about what happened in the past.
    Foreshadowing: a technique of hinting something what's going to happen.
    Tension: stress or conflict.
    Suspense: an element that the writer left to leave the reader hanging.

  2. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet each faced the external conflict (feud), which resulted in the tragic ending.

  3. Internal conflict: a character dealing with his or her own mixed feelings or emotions. A character may also needs to decide what is right and what is wrong.
